Home and Parenting
Being a parent is not just an easy task. You need to make sure that you are doing good and educating good. If possible, you need to be a role model to your children. At the start, you may find it out of control and needing some help from your parents. Asking advice on how to do this or to do that is just natural and you will soon realize things. Of course, aside from being a parent who stays at home with your child, you also need to work to support your family. Most dads are not spending much time at work due to this responsibility. There are also moms who are working but most are full-time housewives. Well, stay-at-home moms and dads often pay a high financial price when they cut back from two incomes to one. Many full-time parents choose to work from home as a way to make up the income, but juggling parenting with income producing opportunities at home is not always easy.
Since I am not still a parent, I find it hard to show off tips on how to be one. But with this desire of me in posting ideas and tips about home and parenting, I came to search the net and found some tips which can be a help. If you want to know how to balance working from home with parenting, here are some ways to maximize opportunities to make money from home with the demands of being a stay-at-home parent.
Set Realistic Expectations
Frustrations may set in and patience with interruptions from children may be lacking if a stay-at-home parent expects to sit down and put in a full eight hours of work without interruption, in spite of the fact that the children are at home.
To minimize frustrations, it’s best for stay-at-home parents to go into a work-from-home day knowing that only a few hours of work may be accomplished during normal working hours.
It’s also important to set realistic income expectations with working from home since the actual hours worked during the day may be few.
Work Around the Other Parent’s Work Schedule
It’s often best to find work from home opportunities that are very flexible and can be done around the other parent’s work schedule. Working when the other parent can attend to the needs of the child reduces the number of interruptions from the children and also increases the ability to focus on the task at hand.
This means that jobs that require set hours, particularly during the day, may not be the most suitable for a stay-at-home mom or dad. Jobs that take place during odd hours such as early morning newspaper delivery, or that can be done any time day or night such as freelance writing, editing, and web designing may be better options for full time parents.
Plan Activities for Children during Working Hours
It’s a good idea to have several activities planned for the kids that don’t require a lot of supervision. These activities that can be done independently can keep children occupied while the parent focuses on income producing opportunities.
For instance, providing the children with puzzles, coloring books, play dough, and other quiet activities during a parent’s work time may help to keep the children occupied while the parent is working from home. Whenever possible, a play area for the children should be set up near the stay-at-home parent’s work area. This provides an opportunity for the parent to supervise the child and also helps the child to feel less neglected during working hours.
Hire a Babysitter When Needed
One advantage to working from home is that at least in theory, it’s unnecessary to shell out money on babysitters. Though that may be true in many cases, in some cases it makes good financial sense to hire a babysitter to come into the home to supervise the children during at least the more intense working hours.
It makes sense to hire a babysitter when a job requires a professional sounding environment. For instance, companies that hire phone sales representatives who work from home require that the work environment be free from noises associated with home such as crying children and barking dogs. Freelancers who make a decent hourly wage may also find it beneficial to pay someone to watch the children at least part of the time so they can increase their productivity.
Working from home while being a stay-at-home parent may not be easy, but it is possible when realistic expectations are set, when work can be done when the other parent is home, and when quiet activities that don’t require supervision are provided to the children. When needed, and when parents make substantial income from home, hiring a babysitter can allow a parent to focus on his work from home opportunities.
It is really a great feeling to be a parent, right? Though we can say that it is hard to balance all things, at the end, you will realize that it is worth and fulfilling to be a parent. Well, I am also looking forward to be a good parent and through reading advices and tips on parenting and home, I can adopt such things soon.
